Re: Imagine a world without war

"A world without war ...hm. All these kids in my
classes are just randomly deciding their anti war, and want to demonstrate.
instead of wasting time on this, why not honour the soldiers. WITHOUT
WAR IS GOOOD??? That doesn't even make sense, some corrupt people
can come into power, evil people. war is necessary."
JV (19 Jan 2004): Thank you to Anonymous who convinced
me that I should delete the statements I wrote in November 2002 (I left
them visible on the abovementioned page) and substitute them with something
meaningful. Back then I thought I could change the world by complaining
about the behavior of other people (presidents and dictators alike).
Today I realize that war is a reflection (mirror) of the war inside of
myself. I will continue experiencing the images of war as long as I don't
come to peace within myself. The only way to stop war is to stop the
war inside of me.
Therefore I agree that going on demonstrations to complain
about something is indeed pointless. At the end of 2003 we experienced
an upheaval of crime in South Africa and many people demonstrated, mainly
accusing the current government that it has failed dismally to protect "peace
loving citizens" from violence and crime. It is not the
responsibility of government alone to create a peaceful society, it is
the responsibility of every citizen. As long as the hearts of
men and women are filled with fear, so long will our reality give us
something to fear. As long as we do not have inner peace, so long will
reality give us something to worry about.
There is no absolute evil, there is no right or wrong.
There are people who act in an evil way and
there are people who act in a good way and
we have to be grateful to both types of actors,
especially those who excel at doing good and evil, for helping us to
gain the Knowledge of Good and Evil we need to become Enlightened.
Re: Numerology and Chaos Theory vs Determinism

"If every thing in one's life is pre-determined, then what's
the benefit of
knowing about those things ahead of time?
"If the purpose of calculating one's life with I-Ching is to
know the itinerary on the journey of life, then such move will only
bring you pointless worries. Knowing what good things will happen is
going to take
out the elements of joy when the good thing did happen. Knowing
what bad
thing will happen is going to prolong your fear. That's why it
is absolutely pointless to use I-Ching to do fortune-telling.
"What is the purpose of I-Ching? To calculate when the window
of opportunity will open so you can be ready for it. In the midst of
pre-determined fate and making choices according to timing and
positioning, I-Ching can point out the foothold which can provide
you the
possibility to create desirable outcome/future. In the events of
good, it
tells you how to keep things that way. In the events of bad, it
tells you
how to find a way out, or even how to just turn everything around.
"When one can see the answer before he can see the question,
then he shall
know that Chaos Theory and Determinism are not two sides of a coin,
but
two of the many colors in a kaleidoscope."
JV (23 February 2004): Everything, I believe, is predetermined and this
knowledge gives me complete peace of mind because I know that everything
that happens to me and other people has a purpose and serves the greater
edification of every soul. It is when people do not understand why something
happens to them that the worries start. I am compelled to understand
the hidden symbolic meaning of everything that happens to me and in the
world. During the time that I am still pondering the meaning of an event,
I do experience a mild level of unrest, but when the "light goes on",
I only experience peace.
Knowing what will happen, the good or the bad, does not remove my joy
or make me fearful. I stand in respectful awe in front of the complexity
of the Universe and the intricate detail of the combined story of our
perfectly intertwined lives. Being "detached" from fear or joy is
not the same as being "without" them. It is indeed better that some things
are not known before they happen. If I had had a distinct premonition
of the WTC attack before 11 September 2001, I would surely have gone
mad trying to stop the inevitable, trying to change the course of history,
so I am grateful that unbearable knowledge never enters my mind.
I would not say that it is completely pointless to consult the I Ching.
Consulting the I Ching as an Oracle helped me to understand crucial aspects
of the Universe. The I Ching is infallible - it always gives you the
answer you need to hear. If you come with disrespect to the I Ching it
will mock you with it's answer. I do however agree that becoming addicted
to it, consulting it for every choice one needs to make, would be pointless.
Instead I have learnt to trust my own Intuition. I have not consulted
the I Ching for more than 18 months now. I trust that I always make the
right choices, even if they seem like a wrong choice in the short term,
time has always proven to me that every choice I have made in the past
had been the inevitable product and source of my Destiny. I think
it is for this reason that the Bible prohibits the consultation of Oracles
- it can prevent us from empowering our own Intuition. We all have Intuition,
but our lack of self-esteem and faith causes us to doubt the inner voice
that speaks evermore clearly as our faith in inner (=divine) guidance
grows.
I fully agree with your last two inspired paragraphs. To me the purpose
of the I Ching is two-fold: On a scientific level it revealed to me the
mystery of the Universe and on a spiritual level it continues to reveal
to me the nature of the Superior Man, the behavior I strive for in myself.
